B.E.R.T. - Building Emergency Response Team

About B.E.R.T.
SIU Campus Building Emergency Response Team (B.E.R.T.)
The Disaster Response Committee at SIU has developed a network of volunteer faculty and staff to assist with the creation of emergency response plans and procedures for all campus buildings.
The purpose of this website is to assist the SIU Campus Building Emergency Response Team (B.E.R.T.) Members with developing emergency plans for their buildings, and to provide the necessary information that will help them with this task.
The B.E.R.T. concept is based on the need to unite and communicate to the numerous departments and staff the emergency response procedures that exist on campus. The major goals of the B.E.R.T. program are:
- The development of uniform emergency response plans within all campus buildings.
- To develop, unite, train, and communicate with a group of personnel that can work together not only as a large team, but as individual "building teams" to develop, implement, inform, and test emergency procedures in all buildings on campus.
- To expedite the notification, evacuation, and search procedures necessary during most emergencies.
- The B.E.R.T. information that was contained on the websites of the Center for Environmental Health and Safety and the Department of Public Safety has been compiled and placed here in an effort to make planning easier.
